Why this site exists
Image to GIF is a small, well-defined job. It does not need an account, a queue, a watermark, or a server farm. Modern browsers can decode images, draw them to a canvas, and run a Web Worker. That is enough to write a real GIF89a file locally.
The site was built in 2026 as an independent tool. It is not affiliated with CompuServe, the authors of the GIF specification, or any image-format vendor. GIF is a published format; this is an independent implementation of a converter for it.
What it does
- Converts JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP, GIF, SVG, and ICO images to GIF.
- Combines up to 30 images into an animated GIF, with reordering and frame timing.
- Writes a still GIF from a single image.
- Supports 1-bit transparency, looping, contain/cover fitting, and palette control.
What it does not do
- It does not upload, store, or transmit your images.
- It does not convert video to GIF.
- It does not edit an existing animated GIF frame by frame.
- It does not add a watermark or require an account.
How the site is paid for
The converter is free to use. The page is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages, and analytics are limited to page-level events. There are no ads, no interstitials, and no file-size paywall.
image-to-gif.com converts images to GIF in the browser; files are never uploaded.
